1. Research Article :
http://www.edutopia.org/facebook-social-networking-teacher-recruitment-- This article shows how Facebook and other Social Networking sites are used for a good reason. Many times, schools and workplaces will use facebook to get information about who they will be hiring and who will be in their schools. This has been a privacy issue for quite some time now and I'm glad to finally see an area that is using Facebook to its advantage. TeachNOLA recruiters created a Facebook group -- a digital network with a page on the social-networking site that gives basic information about the organization and a link to TeachNOLA's home page.
2. Podcast / Video :
--This video talks about how a Social Networking site like Facebook, is being used by employers to get information about their future employees. Although people sometimes don't agree with employers "invading their privacy" it is information that people put into the online database. In this video it also says how posting pictures can also help people get noticed, if they were trying to become a model or something like that. Their are pro's and con's for everyone and everyone definitely have different opinions about privacy on Social Networking sites!
3. Web Site :
http://www.govloop.com/-- There are many different Social Networking websites. This website, www.govloop.com is a Social Networking site for the government employees! Is that crazy? Like facebook or myspace, this site allows government employees to do Social Networking.
My opinion about Social Networking has been the same since i started using Myspace, Facebook and other sites. I know many people think it is unfair for an employer or any type of company or school to "snoop" on their facebook for information, but in my opinion, it isn't "snooping" because its on the world wide web. I guess what I'm saying is, don't put something online that you wouldn't want the whole world to see! Right? These sites are for people to interact with one another, and it definitely is a good thing. I enjoy using Social Networking sites, and I know a lot of people who do. I liked doing this topic because it helped me understand it better. Before doing this I thought most people were against "snooping" on Social Network sites, but I now realize that a lot of people put things on the internet to get noticed! I guess this issue is one that will be around for along time, and everyone has different opinions, but Social Networking can go either way. It could be a great thing, or it could hurt you in many ways.
I agree with you about social networking as far as what people choose to post and talk about on these sites. You are so right, some people need to wake up and realize that this is the WORLD WIDE WEB that they are posting pics and comments to and they need to be cautious. The world is "snooping," but by using FB and MySpace, you give them permission.
